Dear Fellow Lucifer,

The Carlton Trophy 2020
It is with great regret that the Committee has decided that it is really not feasible for us to proceed with the Carlton Trophy tournament this year. The majority of courses are still only allowing members to play with other members (and not guests) and it seems that kitchens and showers are going to stay closed for a number of weeks at many clubs. The invitation to play this year elicited no less than 32 players. We look forward to a bumper year next year with at least this number of participants. The notice will be issued in January next year and you are urged to reply to it promptly by signing up for the Tournament on the website.

Lucifer Members Only Dinner 2020
This has been a frustrating event to organise, having had, because of the Covid pandemic, to be postponed from 26th March to 3rd September. It now transpires that the venue for this event, Brooks’s Club, will be closed for refurbishment in August and only opening, for the first time in over 5 months, on the very date of our postponed dinner. The Club and we recognise that it is just not feasible for us now to organise a dinner for that evening. Accordingly, the Members Only Dinner will be combined with the Members & Guests Dinner on 10th November to be hosted by The Caledonian Club. A notice to this effect will be posted shortly on the website and this will be followed up with a reminder from me in early September that bookings should be made. Please mark up your diaries accordingly and let us hope we can at least enjoy that dinner with a full turnout of socially-distanced Lucifer and guests.

Lucifer long socks
A new batch has been ordered and there are 35 self-elasticated pairs available at the cost of £25 per pair and £45 for two pairs. A number of you have ordered them from me already. I will be bringing them to the fixture at Woking on 10th July, the Summer Meeting at New Zealand on 12th August and to the Autumn Meeting on September 22nd if this can still go ahead and if you would like one or more pairs please let me know beforehand.

Memorial Service for Nicholas Hayes

Wendy Hayes was originally contemplating organising this at Malmesbury Abbey in May, later postponed to July. That will not be possible because of the limits in numbers permitted at such gatherings and if doubts persist then the fall-back date she had in mind in September will also be premature. In such event she will postpone the arrangements until some time in the Spring of 2021. She does not want to organise anything until she knows that everyone who wants to attend can indeed do so. I will keep you posted on this as doubtless there will be a considerable number of Lucifers wanting to attend.

With best wishes to you in maintaining good health and continued vigilance in staying safe,
